    CBR (also known as Comic Book Resources) is one of the longest-running and most respected entertainment websites for media news, discussions and communities. Since launching in 1995, CBR has amassed a readership of over 60 million users and over 75 thousand members on community forums, all of whom have come to love the resources provided for a greater appreciation and investment in the world of entertainment.

     

    CBR is looking for eager writers to contribute News content under the leadership of the News Editor in the position of News Writer. The selected candidates will help source, brainstorm, produce, self-edit and publish original new content for our knowledgeable audiences and have the opportunity for tremendous career growth.

     

    Please note that this role does not involve video production or script writing.

    Candidates should be passionate for the field of Comics and preferably have an in-depth understanding of the latest, most breaking and biggest news trends. We want researchers whose fingers are firmly on the pulse of the Comics world and its culture, and who know exactly where to look for its most interesting developments.

    At the same time, we want seasoned content creators with proven experience writing clean, informative copy to tight deadlines and exacting editorial standards.

    Expectations

    • Researching, writing, self-editing and posting 5+ articles weekly in CBR's house style (following the requisite training and peer mentorship period)
      • This will include fact checking, formatting, linking and image sourcing/very basic editing (sizing, brightness, etc.)
    • Pitch story ideas when none are readily available
      • Exploring relevant news and social media feeds, including Instagram, Reddit, Twitter, TikTok and more, and tuning in to popular podcasts, streams and YouTube shows to enhance coverage.
    • Accept and apply any/all feedback received by the editorial team
    • Communicate openly and actively with the editorial team

    Job Responsibilities

    • Write at least 12 Feature articles monthly, under a wide range of word counts
    • Stay up to date on the latest news and trends in Tabletop Games
    • Knowledge of the following franchises a strong plus: Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic: The Gathering and any other TCG properties.
    • Coordinate with Features Editors and Senior CBR Editors for assignments and feedback
    • Ability to create in-depth Gaming Guides preferred

     

    Applicants must be highly motivated and possess the following requirements:

    • Relevant experience in writing and editing
    • Broad working knowledge of old and current video games and the culture of video games, from TV to film
    • Available at peak hours and strategic posting times strongly preferred; weekend availability a plus

    Our editorial team is looking for writers to create original and informative Gaming List articles that our discerning audience demands, with the eye-catching aesthetic they crave. CBR operates at a rapid pace and is seeking writers who can produce high-quality articles under time constraints. The selected candidate will have tremendous career growth and internal development opportunities within the organization.
