The Plot of Spy x Family So Far
Spy x Family is centered around an undercover Westalian agent, "Twilight." He is assigned a top-secret mission known as "Operation Strix," and he takes on the persona of a family man named Loid Forger. His mission is to spy on the Ostania leader of the National Unity Party, Donovan Desmond, who is a potential threat to the peace of the two nations, Westalis and Ostania. Unfortunately, Loid's assignment is no easy task. Donovan Desmond rarely shows his face in public. As a result, to get close to Donovan Desmond, Loid creates a fake family: posing as a great parent alongside his wife and enrolling his daughter in an affluent private school, Eden Academy, where Desmond's sons also happen to attend.
Unknowingly, the individuals that Loid hires for his fake family have secrets. Yor Forger is Loid's fake wife; by day, she is a clerk at the Berlint City Hall, and by night, she is a professional assassin. She agrees to a fake marriage with Loid Forger because it benefits her lifestyle as an assassin, even though she is unaware of Loid's background. As for Anya Forger, she was an orphan but became the daughter of Loid and Yor Forger. Anya is a curious and playful child; she enjoys eating peanuts and going on spy adventures like her favorite cartoon character, Bondman of Spy Wars. Yet secretly, Anya can read people’s minds: she knows her parents' secrets but does not tell anyone because she wants to help them on their missions.
The first part of the first season focuses on Loid gathering the individuals to partake in his plan and getting Anya enrolled in Eden Academy. Soon after Anya enrolled in the private school, she gets into mischief and mayhem, not taking her studies seriously and always getting in trouble with her friend, Becky Blackbell, and her rival Damian Desmond. In the eyes of Anya, she believes that she is helping her father in his spy mission, but she is causing more trouble for him.
As for the second part of the first season, the series takes a turn by providing a more episodic format, further developing the familial bonds among the Forger family. The second half introduced fans to other key characters like Bond, Anya's pet dog, and Fiona Frost, a fellow Westalian spy agent who questions Yor's devotion to Loid. Overall, the first season mainly introduces the Spy x Family cast and sets the series up to more fun and exciting adventures with the Forger family while still trying to stay on task with spying on Donovan Desmond.

The second season was officially announced through a teaser trailer in December 2022. The teaser showcases an image of Loid Forger asking Yor out on a date, and Yor shyly responds, "A date!?" The scene cuts to another visual of a cruise ship, and Anya excitedly reacts when she sees a huge ship. The visual cuts to another image of Loid Forger trying to act cool as if he's on vacation, but much to her dismay, Anya thinks he's lame.
With just a few clips, the second season continues where the storyline left off. The next adventure for the Forger family is the Cruise Adventure Arc. The Forger family takes a small vacation, but the trip becomes a secret mission for Loid and Yor. This arc is by far one of the highly anticipated arcs for fans as we see more of Yor in action as an assassin, which we didn't get much of in the first season. Furthermore, fans are also anticipating that this season will provide Loid's backstory and why he became a spy.
The Latest Updates for Spy x Family Season 2
There hasn't been much promotion for the new season until recently. On September 14th, a new Spy x Family Season 2 promotional key visual was released. The visual was designed by Kazuaki Shimada. The image features Anya at the center with her iconic (and meme-able) facial expressions. The first image is Anya showcasing her "Waku Waku" face. Anya's family and other spy associates surround her with a cruise ship in the background. The other visual is an inverted image with Anya displaying her popular "Heh." face. Her Eden Academy classmates are adjacent to her while the school is in the background.
The series will continue as a production partnership between Wit Studio and CloverWorks. Most of the cast and staff have reprised their roles in the franchise series. Some returning staff include Kazuhiro Furuhashi as director, Kazuaki Shimada as character designer, and [K]NoW_NAME as music producer. However, there has been a change in the scriptwriting supervisor. Ichiro Okouchi (Code Geass and Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury) replaces Furuhashi.
Fans were only given a teaser announcing the second season. However, the teaser also provided a surprise announcement of a Spy x Family film featuring an original story by the creator, Tatsuya Endo. Spy x Family Code: White is a standalone film featuring the Forger Family going on a family trip to find inspiration and to learn about a special dish that Anya plans to make at the Eden Academy's cooking competition. The cooking competition is an opportunity for Anya to receive a Stella, and Loid does not want to miss his chance to get even closer to Donovan Desmond. The teaser features key images: aesthetically pleasing desserts, a golden key, and airplanes. The film will premiere on December 22, 2023.
