My Hero Academia is getting a new OVA before the next season debuts this fall.

The news came from Shonen Jump Magazine and was posted on Twitter for others to view. The message notes that the OVA will come to theaters while other episodes are played there. However, it'll only be in theaters for a week. As for the plot of the OVA, it will feature Mirio bringing a unique gaming tournament to Class 1-A: "Mirio, a third-year student, comes to join the group. What he brought was the card game Heroes Battle, created by Support students! (A game in which each player fights by making full use of their cards.) Who will be the winner of the card battle?"

My Hero Academia OVAs and The Next Season

This will be the 8th OVA that My Hero Academia has had throughout its run. The various OVAs so far have run the gamut of being tied to the main series plot and fleshing out certain storylines to being about the classes forming a baseball team. As for Mirio, his role in the franchise has been unique compared to many main or supporting roles. He was introduced in Season 3 as one of the head students at U.A., thanks to his Quirk. Then, it was revealed that he was an apprentice to Nighteye, the former partner of All Might. Nighteye felt Mirio, aka LeMillion, should be All Might's successor, but Deku was chosen instead.

Then, in Season 4, Mirio lost his powers, and it wasn't until Season 7 that he got them back to help take on the Paranormal Liberation Front alongside Class 1-A and the main Pro-Heroes. What role he'll play in the "Final Arc" is anyone's guess, but the "card battle tournament" will be yet another unique situation for Mirio to be in. Plus, it allows fans to see Class 1-A in a more "laid back setting," given their status by the end of Season 6.

My Hero Academia Season 7 is coming this fall and will likely wrap up the entire story. At the end of last season, Tomura Shigaraki had been overtaken by All For One, and their bodies and Quirks were close to becoming unstoppable. Deku attempted a one-man war on the Paranormal Liberation Front and nearly died. However, he did unlock the full power of One For All. A final battle is brewing between these opposing sides.

MHA's new OVA will debut in Japan on October 20.
