The storyline is set in an alternate version of the 19th-century Meiji Restoration era, where spirits and magic are real but in decline. The story centers around Miyo Saimori, a young woman born without supernatural abilities, who is forced into a life of servitude by her abusive stepmother. Upon coming of age, Miyo discovers that her intended fiancé is Kiyoka Kudou, a commander known for his cold and stern demeanor, causing previous prospective brides to flee within three days of engagement. Despite their rocky introduction, as the series unfolds, Miyo and Kiyoka find themselves slowly opening their hearts to each other, realizing that they might be each other's chance at finding true love and happiness.
