Marvel announced it will release Rom and the X-Men: Marvel Tales #1 this December, a reprint of rare stories from Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscema's Rom series that featured the titular characters.

Collaborating with Hasbro, Marvel is bringing back the comics from the 70s and 80s featuring the popular toy known as Rom the Spaceknight in a series of collected issues, including Rom Omnibus Vol 1 and a facsimile edition of Rom #1. In December, Rom and the X-Men: Marvel Tales #1 will hit shelves featuring a cover by Nick Bradshaw and collecting Rom #17-18 and #31-32, which include the Spaceknight's first encounter with the Children of the Atom and other stories. The release is part of Marvel Tales, a line of comics celebrating the legacy of the House of Ideas by reprinting classic issues with new covers.

Rom's Adventures with the X-Men

The original comic run for Rom lasted from Dec. 1979 to Feb. 1986 in the eponymously titled Rom: Spaceknight. The hit solo series saw the popular toy character become a Marvel legend in his own right, fighting alongside some of the greatest heroes in the Marvel Universe. Some of Rom's popular team-ups included teaming up with the Avengers and The Fantastic Four, battling evil villains such as Galactus and the Skrulls. Rom's adventures hunting Dire Wraiths on Earth brought the character into the affairs of the X-Men, leading to him teaming up with the Uncanny X-Men in the fight against the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

In the first two issues collected in Rom and the X-Men: Marvel Tales #1, Rom joins the X-Men in search of a creature called Hybrid -- the offspring of a Dire Wraith and a human after Cerebro detects Hybrid as a mutant. In Rom #31-32, also collected in the Marvel Tales release, the Spaceknight finds himself entangled in a battle with Mystique and her alliance of evil mutants that includes Rogue, whom Rom will inspire to make a turning point in her journey toward becoming a hero with the X-Men.

Rom and the X-Men: Marvel Tales #1 will be released on Dec. 20 through Marvel Comics.
