  • The possibility of Ahsoka and Luke meeting in the Disney+ series or in Dave Filoni's rumored adaptation remains uncertain but promising.

Star Wars icon Dave Filoni knows how Ahsoka Tano and Luke Skywalker first met, but he hasn't found a place to tell the story yet. At least he hadn't before the Ahsoka series debuted on Disney+, following up the character's appearance on The Mandalorian in Season 2 but, seemingly, preceding her appearance in The Book of Boba Fett, where Anakin Skywalker's son and former padawan share a smile and some conversation.

This has led to a lot of fans wondering when the two may have first crossed paths. With Ahsoka now airing episodes on Disney+, there is a small gleam of hope for the answers fans want. On the other hand, the series looks like it may be more focused on reuniting the titular character with Anakin. Dave Filoni knows how Ahsoka and Luke Skywalker met, but it doesn't look like he's quite ready to share that story.

Updated September 12, 2023, by Joshua M. Patton: If viewers watch actor Rosario Dawson's performance in The Mandalorian, she seems like the Ahsoka Tano from the first half of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. However, as she finds her balance in the Force, she may become the more serene version of Ahsoka who met Luke Skywalker while he was training Grogu. This feature has been updated to meet with CBR's current publishing standards, as well as to include more information about whether fans could learn more about Ahsoka and Luke's first meeting in the near future.

When Does Ahsoka Meet Luke Skywalker?

A touching moment for Star Wars fans occurred in The Book of Boba Fett's sixth episode when Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) goes to see Grogu, the force-sensitive child he left in Luke's hands at the end of The Mandalorian Season 2. When he arrives, he is met by Ahsoka, the former padawan of Luke's father, Anakin Skywalker. She tells Djarin that she is an "old friend of the family" and later shares a conversation with Luke, saying that he is a lot like Anakin. She even offers the young Jedi master hard-won advice before bidding him farewell.

There are many details about Anakin that Luke and Ahsoka could share with each other. Ahsoka knows how Anakin was as a teacher and during the Clone Wars. This could give Luke insight he needs to both emulate the Jedi Order at their best while avoiding past mistakes. Luke may also be able to bring her comfort, as well.

Luke witnessed Anakin Skywalker's redemption and return to the light side of the Force in 1983's Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Whether fans will ever see the two discussing these things, and if Filoni's envisioned meeting for them includes similar conversations is something fans will have to wait for. If this moment doesn't happen in Ahsoka (either this season or a future season), it's also possible the scene could appear in Dave Filoni's rumored Heir to the Empire adaptation for the big screen.

Speaking to Screen Rant alongside fellow executive producer Jon Favreau at Star Wars Celebration, Filoni discussed the two fan-favorite characters and the tale he has in mind for them. "Yeah, I have a whole story about that that I devised many years ago actually," Filoni said. "I had to put that tile in place to do what I'm doing now and understand it. I haven't found a way to tell that story yet. I told a piece of it afterward, but yeah, we'll see. You'd love it, it's a great story."

Of course, it's also possible this story is told in another format in the Star Wars Expanded Universe. The story of Ahsoka facing the Imperial Inquisitor seen in the short, final episode of her arc of Tales of the Jedi. This is a shorter, heavily altered version of the same tale as told in E.K. Johnston's Ahsoka novel. Perhaps a future installment of Tales of the Jedi could show Ahsoka and Luke meeting in a similar way, while a novel or comic series could further flesh out the story for fans who want all the details. The balance Star Wars storytellers have to strike isn't in the Force but rather making sure each installment serves the larger saga while working on its own.

Ahsoka Focuses On A Reunion With Anakin

Dawson reprises her role as the titular character in Ahsoka on Disney+, which debuted in late August 2023. The trailer for the early episodes promised a new take on the cliffhanger ending in the animated Star Wars Rebels finale. That show's young Jedi, Ezra Bridger, disappared in the final moments of the series while defending his home planet of Lothal. He was last seen getting launched into Hyperspace alongside the Galactic Empire's Grand Admiral Thrawn, played in Ahsoka by his animated voice actor Lars Mikkelsen, in the series finale of Rebels. Ahsoka's live-action debut in The Mandalorian, revealed she was searching for Thrawn hunting down a woman known only as "the Magistrate." The character, played by Diana Lee Inosanto is named in Ahsoka as Morgan Elsbeth.

There have been no announcements on whether Luke will return in Ahsoka at this time, though the marketing seemed to indicate Anakin Skywalker's return was imminent. Modern visual effects techniques brought Luke back to live-action in both The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Actor Mark Hamill was on-set both times. Filmmakers digitally de-aged his voice and face, combined with a body double to make the character appear as he did in the 1980s. While some fans find this magical and heartwarming, other Star Wars fans feel the character should be recast using a new actor. However the first meeting of Ahsoka Tano and Luke Skywalker takes place, it is not something meant to remain a mystery.

Of course, Filoni could find a place for the story of their first meeting in animation. Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi included stories about Dooku's life as Jedi, and Ahsoka Tano's life at different stages of the saga. If Luke and Ahsoka meeting is meant to be a discrete story, the second season of this series seems like the place for it. Still, there is reason to believe the journey Ahsoka takes in her Disney+ series will not just lead her to Ezra, Thrawn and Anakin. If she does meet Luke Skywalker in that series, it will almost certainly come in the season (series?) finale.

Ahsoka debuts new episodes Tuesdays at 9 PM Eastern, while The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Star Wars Rebels are available to stream on Disney+.
