Veteran DC creators Mark Waid and Howard Chaykin are teaming up to host a comic book seminar.

Chaykin and Waid's seminar is titled Comic Book U and is an intense, all-day event focused on the craft and process of creating comics. The event will take place at UCLA's Ackerman Hall on Saturday, November 18. The in-person, seven-hour seminar will feature targeted segments on comic book creation, a catered lunch, take-home supplies, lessons and a networking event at the end. Tickets are currently on sale for $150 on Eventbrite, and seating is limited to 120 attendees. The first Comic Book U will be held at the Bruin Reception Room at Ackerman Hall on the University of California, Los Angeles campus. Subsequent events will take place in other academic venues and at comic conventions.

Waid expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming seminar, "With each passing year, more and more beginning artists and writers dream of working in comics," he said. "This is an exciting opportunity to teach them what we've learned about this unique craft, and we're eager to pass along the tools and techniques they'll need to know," he added. Chaykin is also happy to share his decades of knowledge, "For the past fifteen years, I have done workshops for the major comic book publishers in the USA, as well as for film studies classes overseas," he said. "These lectures on graphic narrative address skill sets that apply not only to comics but to all visual media, and I've been gratified by the response".

Waid is a multiple award-winning comic book writer and has served as an editor, publisher, and consultant for companies such as DC Comics and Humanoids. Waid is perhaps best known for creating Kingdom Come, one of the best-selling American graphic novels ever, with artist Alex Ross. Chaykin is a cartoonist best known for American Flagg! and has worked in the comic book industry for over fifty years.
