The Witcher Season 3 has received a lot of controversy among fans, with some believing it is the best season yet and others suggesting the show has gotten increasingly worse with each installment. Regardless of the mixed reviews for the adaptation, the Netflix show has already been renewed for Season 4, ensuring there is more story to come.

The latest season ended The Witcher with many twists as major villains made big moves and the main characters are once again separated from each other. Throughout Season 4, The Witcher will have to address these significant questions.

10 Are Ciri's New Companions Going to Hinder or Aid Her Journey?

Mistle in The Witcher Season 3.

In the finale of The Witcher Season 3, Ciri was saved by a group of young fighters. Though most of them are new characters, Mistle was shown earlier on in the series. When they watched Ciri fight the last person holding her captive, it seemed to be a test to see what she was capable of.

It was also clear that they knew who she was. Knowing they are aware she's Princess Cirilla could be dangerous for her. However, it could be beneficial if they choose to stand as her allies. With only a brief introduction of them at the end of the season, audiences will be waiting for their motives to be made clear in Season 4.

9 Is Cahir a New Ally Ciri Can Rely On?

Ciri pointing a sword at Cahir in The Witcher Season 3.

Cahir has been an enemy of Ciri's since the beginning when he invaded Cintra and killed her grandmother, the queen of Cintra. In Season 3, Ciri finally got her chance to seek revenge and kill him for all the pain he has caused her. However, she was unable to do it when Cahir wouldn't fight back and even encouraged her to do it.

Before he led Nilfgaardian soldiers away from her, he promised to find her. This makes it obvious to audiences that he has officially turned on Emperor Emhyr and intends to fight for Ciri. The interaction was short and tense, though, and makes it uncertain if Cahir will play a critical role in her battle against Nilfgaard in the future.

8 Will Yennefer Remain in Aretuza to Rebuild?

Yennefer of Vengerberg, played by Anya Chalotra, looks sad in The Witcher

After Tissaia tragically took her life in Season 3, Yennefer was last seen standing with her fellow mages as they began to clean up and restore Aretuza. They were intent on rebuilding their home, not allowing it to fall into ruins and disuse after Redania and the elves decimated it.

Beforehand, Yennefer's main concern was protecting Ciri and teaching her how to use her magic. Now, as the most powerful magic user in Aretuza, Yennefer's path may have changed course for upcoming seasons of The Witcher. With Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri separated, Yen may leave it up to Geralt to find their daughter as she remains in Aretuza to rebuild the mage's home and headquarters.

7 What Happened to Istredd?

Istredd The Witcher Season 3.

During the invasion of Aretuza, Istredd rushed to grab the Book of Monolith. When he did, Vilgefortz revealed himself to be a traitor. He sent Istredd through a portal with the book. This is the last time audiences saw Istredd, leaving viewers wondering what became of the mage.

Though he has possession of the powerful book, the audience also knows Vilgefortz needs the text. It's likely he needs Istredd as well since his experience as a historian means he is probably able to decode the book. This makes sense as to why Vilgefortz didn't kill the mage instead of sending him away. Wherever Istredd was sent, it's certain that Vilgefortz has him contained to be of use for his devious plans.

6 Is Emperor Emhyr Fooled by Fake Ciri?

Teryn looking up in The Witcher Season 3.

In a shocking twist of events, The Witcher's finale featured Emperor Emhyr introducing a fake Ciri, Teryn, as the real Princess of Cintra. The audience knows that Vilgefortz was doing experiments on girls with elven blood, like Ciri, to understand her powers and learn how to use them for his own gain.

What has yet to be revealed is if Emhyr is also being tricked by the sorcerer. It's possible Vilgefortz is using the girl as a decoy because he believes Ciri died after she triggered the elven magic in the Tor Lara. However, Emhyr could be aware the girl is a fake and is using Ciri's identity for his own gain.

5 Is Vilgefortz Trying to Manipulate Emhyr?

Vilgefortz The Witcher Season 3.

The previous question brings up an even more important question about Vilgefortz and Emhyr. By this time in the show, viewers know that Vilgefortz is an ally of Emhyr and has been long before the events of The Witcher. He never had any allegiance to the Brotherhood but was a spy intent on using his resources to become the most powerful sorcerer.

While there are many terrifying monsters in The Witcher, Vilgefortz is worse than any of those with fangs and claws. His only interest is his own gain. This could mean that he's loyal to Emperor Emhyr because of the power it promises. However, this could also mean he's manipulating the Nilfgaardian leader just as much as the Brotherhood.

4 What Is Francesca's Next Move?

Francesca, the Elf Queen in the Witcher

The immersion in The Witcher has intensified with each season, building on the complexity of the world. One fascinating, and tragic, part of this world-building is the dwindling elven empire led by Queen Francesca. Though she became a villain in Season 3, hunting down Ciri with her other enemies, Francesca's story has been heartbreaking.

Though Emperor Emhyr offered her people solace in exchange for elven warriors, Francesca was later told by Fringilla that Emhyr was responsible for the assassination of her infant in Season 2. This makes the queen's next move uncertain, with enemies closing in on all sides and her options limited when it comes to keeping her people from being completely exterminated.

3 What Are Philippa's Plans For Redania?

Philippa Eilhart from The Witcher Season 2 on Netflix

There were a few shocking twists at the end of The Witcher Season 3. One particularly unexpected event was Philippa getting one of her allies to assassinate the King of Redania. She didn't even tell Dijkstra, her partner in Redania, until the deed was done.

Quickly following the demise of the king, Philippa honored the new king, Prince Radovid, brother to the murdered monarch. Knowing that Radovid is not fit to be king and has no desire to rule, it's likely Philippa manipulated this course of events to gain control of Redania. Season 4 will have to reveal what her next move is and how this power play is going to work to her advantage.

2 Is Geralt Going to Find Ciri Before Their Enemies?

Dijkstra ambushes Geralt in The Witcher

One of the most wholesome aspects of the last season of The Witcher was the found family plotline between Yennefer, Geralt, Ciri, and Jaskier. Unfortunately, their family was separated again by the end of the season. Ciri ends up in the Korath desert, Geralt goes on a journey to find her with Jaskier, and Yennefer stays in Aretuza to rebuild.

Ciri is now without her family and protectors, faced with a world that wants to use and abuse her powers. Though this could make for a great feminist plot in which Ciri learns to be her own hero, fans still hope Geralt can find his Child of Surprise before their enemies do.

1 How Will They Explain Geralt's Physical Changes?

Liam Hemsworth Geralt of Rivia The Witcher fan art.

Geralt, as the titular character, will surely be a central focus of Season 4 of The Witcher. However, viewers already know this Geralt will come with a new face as Liam Hemsworth steps up in place of Henry Cavill as the character.

Other shows swap out actors to portray the same character all the time, and they often don't address the physical changes. This will not be the case for The Witcher, since the revealed plan is to include these changes in the plot of Season 4. While this change will not derive from the canon storyline, the viewers will expect the creators to explain it with consideration to the world-building.
