The following article contains spoilers for Ahsoka, Season 1, Episode 6, "Far, Far Away," streaming now on Disney+.

Throughout Star Wars Rebels, one of Ezra Bridger's greatest strengths is his ability to create connections with other sentient people and creatures throughout the galaxy. His role throughout his time in the Rebellion ultimately was to build bridges between people and creatures to stand against the Empire. In fact, his friendship with the Purrgil is what leads him and Grand Admiral Thrawn to the new galaxy, effectively removing Thrawn as a threat during the Rebellion.

While Sabine Wren also forms important connections throughout Star Wars Rebels, her knack for forging new alliances really shines in the new galaxy. Ahsoka, Season 1, Episode 6, "Part Six: Far, Far Away" first characterizes Peridea as a dangerous wasteland, but the episode quickly shows that there is always light even in the darkness. The connections both Ezra and Sabine form on Peridea define their strengths as leaders and Jedi, and these new connections might be crucial to their escape back to the original Star Wars galaxy.

Ezra Bridger and Sabine Wren's Friendships Define Their Jedi Strengths

Sabine Wren kneels to befriend a small Noti in Ahsoka

While Sabine and Ezra are bonded by their time in the Ghost crew, their ability to make new friends and allies defines their strength as Jedi. After Sabine and the Eye of Sion arrive in the new galaxy, Baylan Skoll keeps his word that he will let her find Ezra, and Grand Admiral Thrawn's main ally, Enoch, even gives Sabine a mount, a Howler, to aid her. However, none of the Imperials or the mercenaries expect Sabine to survive. The Howler appears frightening at first, but they prove to have more bark than bite. The Howler actually seems to be a friendly mix of dog, rat and horse. Despite their momentary cowardice when nomads attack Sabine, the Howler becomes surprisingly endearing and loyal to Sabine, due in part to Sabine's willingness to accept the Howler as a companion.

Sabine's reluctant friendship with the Howler is her true first major step on Peridea to find Ezra. The Howler leads Sabine to a watering hole and the Noti, a small race of creatures that resemble a mix of turtles, snails and hermit crabs. Sabine's first instinct is to make friendly overtures rather than just attack the Noti. The Noti also show that they are not really warriors, and they are in their shells until they determine that Sabine is not actually a threat. Still, they prove to be Sabine's most useful allies because they lead Sabine directly to Ezra.

The Noti are the clearest example of Ezra and Sabine's ability to bring people together in "Part Six: Far, Far Away." The tiny Noti that Sabine first befriends finds her trustworthy because she has a rebel alliance insignia on her armor. Before Sabine's arrival, Ezra had already befriended the Noti and made them Rebel medallions of their own. These Rebel insignia show Ezra's focus on building community. He does not just peacefully coexist with the Noti. Instead, he has been committed to becoming a part of their culture by learning their traditions and language. Ezra also brings the Noti into his own community, symbolized through the Rebel medallions, and Ezra serves as a protector for the Noti against the marauders on the planet.

Ezra and Sabine's interactions with the Noti also reveal that both of them have always sought a family and a place to belong. While both Sabine and Ezra were instrumental in the Rebellion, their heroism stems from a desire to save the galaxy from the Empire's tyranny and protect the people they care about rather than seek revenge. This desire for family, friendship and allies drives them and serves as their greatest strength as characters and Jedi.

Ezra and Sabine's New Friendships Could Aid Their Escape

Ezra Bridger and Sabine Wren hug in the Noti village in Ahsoka

At this point in Ahsoka, Sabine and Ezra seem to have little chance of escaping Peridea, at least as far as Sabine knows. Sabine has put off telling Ezra the truth about how she arrived on Peridea and the current threat that Thrawn could return to the main Star Wars galaxy. Unbeknownst to them, Ahsoka and Huyang are traveling with the Purrgil to try to stop Thrawn and aid Sabine. However, Sabine and Ezra might be able to save themselves thanks to their new allies.

While the Noti might seem skittish and unassuming, they have survived on Peridea despite the dangers long before Ezra or Sabine ever arrived. The Noti know Peridea far better than Ezra and Sabine ever could. The Noti may know secret paths to the Dathormiri stronghold that could help Ezra and Sabine find a way to attempt to foil Morgan Elspeth and Thrawn's plans. The Star Wars universe often features examples of unlikely allies standing up and foiling the enemies' plans, most notably with the Ewoks in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. The Noti could become another example of underestimated Star Wars heroes due to Ezra and Sabine's influence.

Therefore, while Peridea first seems foreboding, both Ezra and Sabine find the light through their new friendships with the Noti. The Noti ultimately are able to reunite Sabine with Ezra, a reunion which may have taken far longer without their help. These alliances and friendships show that Ezra and Sabine's greatest strengths lie in their ability to seek peace, not war, when the situation warrants it. In the process, Ahsoka hints that Sabine's choice to travel to the new galaxy rather than destroy the map is the right one. Ultimately, Ezra and Sabine are stronger together, and their focus on friendships and saving their friends may save them.

New episodes of Ahsoka are available to stream every Tuesday on Disney+.
