Ahsoka actor Mary Elizabeth Winstead discussed the process of transforming into Hera Syndulla for the Disney+ series.

As reported by The Direct, Winstead recently appeared on the Dagobah Dispatch podcast and talked about the makeup process she had to go through to become Hera, who she has adapted from animation to live-action. However, the actor surprisingly revealed that she did not have to spend an unusually long time in the makeup chair, as some other actors who have played other species have in the past.

"Just for the sake of a story, I’d love for it to be really complicated and say it was an eight-hour process, but thankfully it wasn’t," Winstead said. "They got it down to about an hour which is a pretty normal time to be sitting in the makeup chair for any project. So I was so grateful for that, I think everyone came into it wanting it to look right but also not be too torturous a process for me."

She continued, "So the first few days that I came to set I thought that it was a bit longer. I think that our first test day was about three hours, but they worked on it and worked on it and streamlined it to the point that I came in, I got painted green, I got my headtails on, and I was Hera, and I was ready to go."

Hera Makes Her Live-Action Debut in Ahsoka

As mentioned, Hera originally debuted as an animated character in Star Wars Rebels before being adapted into live-action for Ahsoka. Since Hera was voiced by Vanessa Marshall in Rebels, Winstead has previously discussed what it was like to play the character in a different style of show. "After five seasons of watching Rebels, those characters are real already," she said. "It becomes a different challenge of stepping into some shoes that have already been filled one way and bringing them into literally a different dimension."

Winstead stressed that she wanted to portray Hera as a strong general in Ahsoka. Even though her character stayed behind while her allies, such as Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren, traveled to a brand-new galaxy in Episode 6 of the Disney+ show, Hera will likely be a key figure in the upcoming battle against Grand Admiral Thrawn, who finally made his imposing live-action debut.

New episodes of Ahsoka premiere on Disney+ on Tuesdays.
