One of many major cameos featured in The Flash was the return of late actor Christopher Reeve as his incarnation of Superman, brought to life by way of CGI and archival footage, and actor John Glover is rejecting the fan criticism over the appearance. In The Flash, there are various incarnations of different superheroes that pop up as Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) traverses through the multiverse. At one point, Reeve's Superman can be seen, standing alongside Helen Slater's Supergirl. While some fans were stoked to see the classic Man of Steel's return, others found the cameo to be distasteful, prompting some criticism on social media. One person on Twitter even suggested that Reeve would have "absolutely hated this," and that managed to get a reply from John Glover, an actor who'd worked with Reeve on Smallville along with various stage productions.RELATED: DC Celebrates the 30th Anniversary of Reign of the Supermen

"I think it’s up to his family / estate and not anyone else," Glover wrote in a tweet, suggesting that if the family's okay with it, the fans don't need to be unhappy. He added, "Chris’ dedication to the franchise led him to Smallville as [Dr. Swan]. He loved Superman and would have wanted to be included. And this is from someone who worked with him in plays and on Smallville."

Another Superman Cameo Sparks Criticism

Reeve was not the only late actor to posthumously appear as Superman in The Flash. Before Reeve suited up as the Man of Steel, the character was played by George Reeves in the Adventures of Superman series from the 1950s. Reeves, who passed away in 1959, is said to have blamed that role for derailing his career because of the ensuing typecasting. That had some fans feeling like it wasn't appropriate to posthumously put Reeves back into the suit, wondering if the actor would have had a problem with the cameo if he had a say.

Another unexpected cameo from Superman in the movie was of a living actor, Nicolas Cage. It was significant as there were previous plans for Cage to star in a Superman movie directed by Tim Burton, but the project famously fell through before seeing the light of day. The cameo in The Flash allowed for Cage fo finally be seen on the big screen in the Superman outfit, though the actor admits he wishes he had more screen time in that role.

The Flash is now available on VOD.
