Larian Studios has confirmed that its mega hit RPG Baldur's Gate 3 will release on Xbox consoles later this year.

After months of speculation, Larian Studios founder Swen Vincke confirmed on social media platform X that Baldur's Gate 3 would be coming to Xbox consoles after he had a discussion with Xbox Studios boss Phil Spencer. "Super happy to confirm that after meeting @XboxP3 yesterday, we’ve found a solution that allows us to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to Xbox players this year still, something we’ve been working towards for quite some time," Vincke said. "All improvements will be there, with split-screen coop on Series X. Series S will not feature split-screen coop, but will also include cross-save progression between Steam and Xbox Series."

There was no confirmation on when the game will be released this year, but that is presumably coming soon enough. Before the announcement, there were some concerns with the Xbox version of Baldur's Gate 3 because of the hardware issues with the Xbox Series S and split screen co-op. It seems as if Larian and Xbox were unable to solve this issue, but the game is still coming to both consoles regardless.

Baldur's Gate 3's Massive Success

Baldur's Gate 3 is the latest RPG from Larian and the long-awaited sequel in the Baldur's Gate series. The wait has paid off, as the game is currently the best PC release of 2023 on Metacritic, with a score of 96 on the review aggregate site. The RPG is also massive, with hundreds of hours of content, though a speedrunner did manage to beat Baldur's Gate 3 in under 11 minutes.

Xbox is not the only forthcoming release for Baldur's Gate 3 either. The game will also release on PlayStation 5 and Mac on September 6. Signs point to even more success for those releases, especially as Baldur's Gate 3 has topped PlayStation's pre-order charts. Whether it achieves the same level of hype and success on Xbox consoles or not remains to be seen, as does any sort of release date window for the game.
