A glitch in Baldur's Gate 3 caused the companions in the game to be too "horny" for the player too soon, developer Larian Studios confirmed.

In an interview with The Gamer at PAX West, game director Swen Vincke confirmed suspicions that the romances in Baldur's Gate 3 were progressing at an unnatural rate. "So... it was a bug," Vincke said. "The approval thresholds were too low when we shipped. That's why they were so horny in the beginning. It wasn't supposed to be that way. We've fixed it since, at least for some of them. We're still fixing a few of them."

The Baldur's Gate 3 character most affected by the down-bad bug was the human wizard Gale. "It wasn't intended," Vincke said. "Especially Gale. [He] wasn't supposed to be like, instantly there." Although players have responded favorably to Baldur's Gate 3's peculiar romances, Larian Studios still plans on patching the hook-up system, so the in-game companions don't throw themselves at the player too soon. "There were a lot of people that enjoyed it. But it was too fast," Vincke said. "It was supposed to simulate how real relationships are."

Romance isn't the only thing that will be addressed in future updates to Baldur's Gate 3. Larian Studios said it's working on a "gigantic list" of bug fixes and gameplay tweaks for the role-playing video game. These fixes will be present when Baldur's Gate 3 is released on the PlayStation 5 on Sept. 6. An Xbox Series X|S port is planned for 2023, but the Series S version will not feature split-screen co-op due to the console's limitations.
