Mac users can get the full Baldur's Gate 3 experience on September 21, 2023.

Larian Studios, the game's developer, confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that the game's third major patch would come on September 21, finally providing fans with the game's remaining content. The title has been available on Mac since before its launch, but fans were only able to play the early access version, which lacked much of the elements from the full release that the newest update will bring.

Baldur's Gate 3 is a turn-based role-playing game set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons in which players embark on a long journey to fight an ancient evil threatening the world of Faerun. Players are able to create a character from a variety of races and classes, each with their own unique perks and role playing opportunities. Along the way, the game tasks players with making critical decisions regarding the story, with each choice potentially affecting the plot in major ways.

The game received near-unanimous critical acclaim from fans and publications alike, with users on Metacritic deeming it the best PC game of 2023 and one of the best of all time. Just days after its initial release, it rocketed to the highest echelon of review scores, eliminating The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim from the website's top 10 highest-rated PC games ever released.

Despite being a PC exclusive at launch, the game did see a release on the PlayStation 5 in just a matter of weeks, where it has continued to top the charts in terms of sales. Though an Xbox Series X|S port was initially slated for a 2024 release, Larian Studios recently recanted this decision, announcing a port to the Microsoft console by the end of this year, though no news has come out about a possible release date for this version. Following the Xbox version's release, the game will officially be available on every major platform except for the Nintendo Switch.

Baldur's Gate 3 also supports a cross-save feature that allows players to transfer their saves from one version to another across platforms, a feature that is still practically brand-new to the industry. Cyberpunk 2077 supported this feature as well, with saves on the console or PC versions being interchangeable and easily transferrable.

Baldur's Gate 3 will fully release on Mac on Sept. 21. The game is available on PC via Steam and the PlayStation 5, with the Xbox Series X|S version on the way.
