Quick Links

Ryujin Industries is essentially the Thieves' Guild of Starfield, so their missions primarily involve the use of stealth and persuasion to sneak by and outsmart unaware NPCs. As a tale of loyalty, deception, and friendship, the Ryujin Industries storyline is very engaging and worth experiencing. It also happens to be a great way to make a lot of credits and the only way players can acquire the unique Manipulate skill.

The Ryujin Industries storyline begins by being very straightforward but soon becomes one of Starfield's most complex series of missions due to the number of branching paths it lets players choose from. There is an optimal route players can take that will ensure they complete the storyline as cleanly and successfully as possible, but players are still encouraged to be as creative as they desire to be along the way while being aware that some decisions will affect how the story ends.

How to Prepare for the Ryujin Industries Storyline

Starfield fully upgraded Persuasion skill

Almost every mission in the Ryujin Industries storyline requires or benefits from the use of the Stealth, Security, and Persuasion skills. It is strongly recommended that a player's Stealth and Persuasion skills be fully upgraded before beginning this set of missions, while they really only need a Rank 1 Security skill. Additionally, it's good to have somewhere between 20 and 30 Digipicks on hand, as you will be hacking a lot of doors, containers, and consoles. Digipicks can be purchased from most of Starfield's general goods vendors.

How to Complete "Back to the Grind"

Starfield Ryujin Industries kiosk

The first mission for Ryujin Industries is fairly straightforward, as it can be completed by simply following each objective marker to its designated location. That being said, there are a few moments during this mission that players may question, simply due to the choices they provide. One of those instances occurs when the player is asked to apply for a job at Ryujin Industries through one of their red kiosks near GalBank in New Atlantis' Commercial District. Players are free to submit any answers on the application, as they will not impact mission progress in any way.

At some point during this mission, the player is tasked with picking up a coffee order from Terrabrew, and an ex-employee of Ryujin named Tomo shows up and threatens them. You should persuade Tomo here, but he still assures you that Imogene will eventually send you after him. After leaving Terrabrew and delivering Imogene her coffee, the player can either rat out the ex-employee or refrain from mentioning it. Either way, she knows about the encounter, but she'll remain impressed at how it was handled (regardless of the choice) and the player will be promoted to junior operative.

RELATED: Starfield: Where to Find All Evidence for Burden of Proof

Finally, the player will be required to deliver coffee to several Ryujin Industries executives in the conference room, and an opportunity to have a conversation with each of them will present itself. Upon returning to Imogene and having a conversation with her, the quest will conclude and you will receive 250XP, 4,800 credits, and a Reconstim for your efforts.

How to Complete "One Step Ahead"

Starfield CeltCorp offices

"One Step Ahead" begins immediately following the completion of "Back to the Grind." Ryujin has reason to believe that CeltCorp was trying to hack into their Research & Development server, and the player is tasked with uploading a file through one of their computers to prevent them from winning a contract that the two companies have been competing for. Following the objective marker from there takes you to another elevator across the Neon Core strip that you can take to CeltCorp.

Upon reaching CeltCorp, you will need to hack a computer that has a Novice security lock on it. Once the computer has been successfully hacked and the program uploaded, the objective marker leads back to Imogene for a conversation where the quest will be completed, with the reward of 100 XP, 1,000 credits, and a Hippolyta.

How to Complete "A New Narrative"

Starfield outside Laredo Firearms

To kick off "A New Narrative," make your way to Akila to plant some incriminating evidence in Laredo Firearms to thwart a deal. Upon entering Akila City, Laredo Firearms can be found off to the right, but the incriminating evidence will need to be planted in a locked room upstairs where a Laredo Employee is usually working. The room is only a Novice lock, so it shouldn't be too difficult to hack.

The chest inside the room where the evidence needs to be planted is also a Novice lock, but the two Digipicks Imogene provided at the start of the quest should be enough to take care of both locks. Once the chest has been unlocked, navigate to your inventory and then place the "Confidential Files" inside. Imogene now waits back at Ryujin Tower in Neon, and speaking with her will reward 100 XP, 2,500 credits, and a CQB-X.

How to Complete "Access Is Key"

Starfield player about to pickpocket the Security Chief

For "Access Is Key," the player will need to travel to The Clinic orbiting Deepala in the Narion System where they are tasked with obtaining a Security Chief's security keycard using "creative thinking," which essentially means either pickpocketing the keycard or deceiving the Security Chief using a Corpo Executive Suit and the Persuade skill. The Corpo Executive Suit can be purchased from Aito Suzuki on the bottom floor of Ryujin Tower, just outside the elevator.

RELATED: Why You've Been Playing Starfield the Wrong Way

Players with an upgraded Theft skill should have no problem pickpocketing the keycard from the Security Chief once she moves over to the railing near her post. However, players who have yet to invest in the Theft skill should put on their Corpo Executive Suit and speak with the Security Chief. Eventually, there will be an opportunity to persuade her, and if the persuasion is successful, she'll hand over her security keycard.

No matter which method is used to obtain the keycard, once it's acquired, the player will need to head back to Imogene with the news. Upon speaking with her, she'll intimate that even greater things are ahead for her new employee and the quest will register as complete, providing 100 XP, 2,500 credits, and two Med Packs in the process.

How to Complete "Sowing Discord"

Starfield inside the Astral Lounge

Fortunately, "Sowing Discord" takes place just across the Neon Core strip in the Astral Lounge. However, it is vitally important that players read the dossiers on Arthur Cruz and Zola Adisa that Imogene provides, as this will make persuading them extremely simple. For this mission, the player will be sabotaging a deal between Quantum Synergies and Infinity LTD by swaying Arther and Zola against Infinity LTD, and it needs to be accomplished with extreme discretion. Also, wearing the Fitted Business Suit provided by Imogene is a must.

RELATED: How Starfield Gets Away with Having Three Protagonists

After making their way to the Astral Lounge, the player can find Zola in an area off to the right of the main entrance. While speaking with her, an opportunity to persuade her will present itself. If you were sure to read the dossiers beforehand, choose the top option. The success rate of this option is 100%, so it is impossible to fail if everything is done correctly. Once Zola has been persuaded, head over to the elevator, up to the VIP balcony, and into Booth 1 to speak with Arthur.

The same methods should be applied to Arthur during a conversation with him, which will result in his successful persuasion. Head over to the VIP booth on the same floor to switch Nina Hart's presentation. The objective is behind a door with a Novice security lock, but thankfully, there are no guards nearby, so the lock can be hacked without anyone noticing.

If you don't have any Digipicks on hand or would rather not use any to pick the lock, head down to the dance floor and speak with Boone Morgan, the Astral Lounge bartender, and say "I lost my suite key. I'd like a replacement." After this, select "Nina Hart. I'm asking on behalf of Ryujin Industries." Both options will result in paying Boone, but this one is the cheapest. At that point, the player can persuade him to only charge 1,000 credits. They can now head back up to Nina's suite and swap her presentation on the table there. This fulfills the final objective of the mission and Imogene waits in Ryujin Tower with a reward of 250 XP, 10,000 credits, and a Hippolyta.

How to Complete "Accidents Happen"

Starfield player attempting to plant an ARC device

During "Accidents Happen," the player will be planting an ARC device in HopeTech on Polvo in the Valo System, so they should start by grav jumping there and landing in Hopetown. After landing, HopeTech can be found straight ahead, and the player should use their scanner to highlight a path for them once they're inside. HopeTech is a very large building, so it's easy to get lost.

The Access Point is guarded by a patrolling security guard, but she will occasionally move out of the room, leaving players ample time to plant the device. Close the door once she leaves the room and then quickly plant the device. Once the device has been planted, head back to Imogene to complete the mission and receive 100 XP, 2,500 credits, and a Hippolyta.

How to Complete "Maintaining the Edge"

Starfield chest containing a Prototype Schematic

The player will be traveling to the Trident Luxury Lines Staryard in the Cheyenne System for "Maintaining the Edge," where they are tasked with acquiring a prototype schematic. After landing on the staryard, the schematic can be found in a chest downstairs behind a door with a Novice security lock on it. The chest also has a Novice lock on it, but the only NPC within range should have her back turned. Once the schematic has been collected, simply return to Imogene to complete the mission and receive their reward of 100 XP, 2,500 credits, two Med Packs, and two Heart+.

How to Complete "Top Secrets"

Starfield Ularu sitting in her office

In "Top Secrets," it's finally time to meet Ularu Chen, Imogene's boss and the head of Operations at Ryujin Industries. She awaits the player in the Executive Offices on the top floor, where she will affirm their accolades and send them on a mission to Cydonia to negotiate a deal with Simon Ryczek for the information he has. Simon can be found standing on the catwalks on the upper level of Cydonia, in its Central Hub.

During a conversation with him, he will say, "Speaking of... looks like the Galactic Raiders are the number one pick for the Universal Championship this year." The player should then respond with, "Razor derby is the only real sport." He then offers the valuable information he has for a whopping 10,000 credits. However, there are other routes the player can take to avoid this hefty price.

The cheapest and most rewarding option is to do the "side job" he mentions, as you will receive a unique weapon upon completing it. Simon wants a mercenary named Malai Liskova dead before she kills him, and he wants her gun as proof she's been taken care of. She can be found on the Datura orbiting Saturn in the Sol System. Upon approaching her ship, she'll strike up a conversation and the player can board her ship and convince her to give up her gun "Ember" in exchange for her life.

RELATED: How Starfield's New Game Plus Works

After boarding her ship and speaking with her, she'll eventually reveal that she intends to kill the player no matter what. Fortunately, an opportunity to persuade her becomes available and successfully persuading her causes her to give up Ember, and she agrees to disappear.

Upon returning to Simon and speaking with him, he offers to let the player keep the gun as a way of "leaving the past behind." He then hands over two data slates with information on Stanley McMillan, the Infinity rep, and another slate to download the files for Project Dominion. You should then navigate to their Notes to read File: Stanley McMillan and listen to Audio: Stanley McMillan, then head to the office across the way to access Stanley's Computer.

Unfortunately, accessing Stanley's Computer is illegal, it has a Novice lock on it, and Peter Brennan is usually standing within direct line of sight of it. However, it's possible to enter stealth in the corner of the cubicle where the computer is to remain out of sight of Peter. Once the computer has been hacked, opening "Deimos Staryards Presentation" gives the option to download the Project Dominion files, but they also have a Novice lock on them.

RELATED: Starfield: "High Price to Pay" Choices & Consequences Guide

Once the files have been downloaded, the player can finally head back to Ularu at Ryujin Tower and speak with her. Rather than completing the quest here, she'll walk you into Masako's room for a brief conversation about a mole within Ryujin. Once the conversation ends, the mission will complete, and the player will receive 250 XP, 10,000 credits, 120 1.5KV LZR Cartridge, and two Digipicks.

How to Complete "Background Checks"

Starfield Dalton Fiennes reading a data slate

"Background Checks" begins by sending the player to Dalton Fiennes, located just a floor below Ularu's and Masko's offices. Upon speaking with him, he tasks the player with hacking Ularu's computer to determine whether she is the mole. This mission requires stealth, even more than every mission before it, so it is best completed without a companion.

You will first be headed to Madame Sauvage's Place in the Ebbside, which is accessed via a door in the middle of the Neon Core strip. There you will meet Nyx, who offers a program that can be used on Masako's computer, but for a price. Simply persuade him to reduce the price to 1,000 credits and then pay him.

RELATED: Starfield: A Complete Guide to Surveying Planets

The player should turn on their scanner and follow the arrows up several flights of stairs until they reach a red button. Pressing the button will cause a crane to pull a storage unit around that can be used as a walkway. The linear path leads from there to a secret entrance to Ryujin Industries HQ. Make your way through a brief tunnel and into an open room. Straight ahead, there will be a door with an "Out of Order" sign on it, but just before the door is a cart with boxes on it that can be used to reach the ventilation system overhead.

From here on out, it is imperative that you sneak to avoid detection. Creating an empty save here and then frequently saving along the way is also highly recommended. The best way to determine where to go during this mission is to occasionally pull up the scanner and follow the arrows it displays. If at any point the player is spotted by a guard, they should revert to an old save and try again.

Starfield Ryujin Industries HQ guard near vent cover

At some point, after following a linear path through some vents, the player will enter another large open area with two security guards—one inspecting something in an area below and another patrolling the area straight ahead. On the other side of the object the guard is inspecting to the right is a vent cover that the player should enter. Along the path through the vents, there will be a hackable panel with a Novice lock on it. Hacking this will allow you to power down the floor lights, which is absolutely essential to progress here. Continuing through the vents, you will eventually encounter a hatch above that you should use as an exit.

RELATED: Starfield: The Best Ways to Earn XP

From here, you will need to move through an area that is patrolled by a security robot and within the line of sight of a security guard. The most efficient way to do this is to hug the wall on the left as the security robot is leaving, and simultaneously look back to ensure the guard is not watching. You can then move through the next room and up the stairs, being aware that there is yet another guard on the level above. Once the guard is stationary near the railing, use your scanner to follow the path to another vent.

The vents lead to the Executive Offices of Ryujin Tower, where Ularu's computer awaits. To reach it, jump onto the circular platform to the right, and then onto the metal beams that run to the other side of the room. Those beams will lead to another vent cover, which can be used to access the vents that lead to the area right outside Ularu's office. You can either power down the lights using the panel near the vent exit or attempt to sneak past the guard outside Ularu's office, then navigate to the "Rover" program on her computer, fast-travel out of the tower, and follow the objective marker to Nyx's Apartment.

Nyx will take a look at the data and then hand the slate over to take to Dalton. Upon handing the data slate over to Dalton, it will be revealed that Imogene Salzo is the mole. Eventually, the mission will register as complete, and the player will be rewarded 250 XP, 10,000 Credits, and a CQB-X.

How to Complete "Guilty Parties"

Starfield Imogene Salzo in the Syndicate Backroom

With Imogene now suspected to be the mole, the player will need to head to her office to get her. Unfortunately, she's already gone, but Yuko just outside her office may know where she went. It turns out that her last known location is Frankie's Grab & Go, which is actually just a front for the Seokguh Syndicate. Speak with Dalton on the Executive Offices floor and fill him in on the details.

When Dalton learns of Imogene's supposed involvement with the Syndicate, he suggests the player visit Benjamin Bayu in the Astral Lounge, and this is unfortunately the best route to take. During a conversation with Bayu, he'll ask the player to do him a favor, but they should persuade him out of it, as it is nearly impossible to do it cleanly. He'll send word along to Frankie's Grab & Go that the player is to be expected, and Ms. Moore will let them in without any hassle. Head over to Frankie's, speak with Ms. Moore, then enter the Seokguh Syndicate Hideout.

Imogene can be found in the Syndicate Backroom, where she will explain that she has been framed by Ularu. She'll offer up some evidence she's gathered, and you should agree to take it back to Dalton. Additionally, if everything has gone smoothly up to this point, the player will find a legendary helmet in the nearby chest, along with plenty of other valuable items.

RELATED: Starfield: The Best Character Traits

You can now head back to the Executive Offices area of Ryujin Tower, where you will first be confronted by Yuko. Dialogue choices don't matter here, so anything goes. Once the brief conversation with Yuko is over, head to Ularu's office to confront her before seeing Dalton. Upon speaking with her, she will first deny being the mole, but she can be persuaded to get her to confess to leaking Project Dominion to Infinity LTD. If the persuasion fails, simply lying to her will produce the desired result.

At some point in the conversation, she'll offer the player a deal, and they should respond with one of the two options that are on Masako's side. As previously stated, you can be creative here and opt to side with Ularu for a different ending, but choosing Masako's side will ultimately clear Imogene's name. After telling her that the evidence will be turned into Dalton, she remains confident that nothing will happen to her. It's imperative that the player not attack her when offered the opportunity, as that will cause serious problems.

Upon returning to Dalton, begin by saying, "I found Imogene. She claims she was set up." Dalton will then ask for an explanation, to which you should reply, "[Give Slate] This can prove Imogene's innocent. And Ularu herself confessed." After a few more lines of dialogue, he'll mention that the player should visit Masako, and the mission registers as complete, with a reward of 250 XP, 4,800 credits, and two Med Packs.

How to Complete "The Key Ingredient"

Starfield Masako Veena and Camden waiting in an office together

Begin "The Key Ingredient" by heading over to Research and Development to visit with Masako. She'll eventually task you with traveling to a mine on Carinae III-A to obtain a rothicite shipment and determine what happened there. Carinae III-A can be found in the Carinae System, northwest of the Sol System on the galaxy map.

Once they've landed on Carinae III-A, the player will be required to infiltrate CM Station RC-1, which is full of Ecliptic spacers. However, unlike some of the other missions in the Ryujin storyline, it does not require stealth and the player can therefore gun their way through. Upon reaching the lift and using it, you will need to defeat the Ecliptic Warmonger who appears in order to acquire "Contract Orders," then read the orders from the "Notes" menu to advance the mission, which will take them to The Clinic in the Narion System.

After docking at The Clinic and heading toward the objective marker, the player will be stopped by a Freestar Guard who can be persuaded to let them by. Inside the next room, an NPC named Sean will attempt the same maneuver, but simply lying to him will defuse the situation. Upon speaking to Dr. Lane, the player should lie once again to continue speaking with him and then select "I need the rothicite shipment. We're going to handle that ourselves." The Refined Rothicite Shipment on the table nearby can then be safely retrieved.

RELATED: How To Start Installing Skyrim Mods

Upon delivering the shipment to Veena at Ryujin Tower and then divulging a bit of information to Masako, Masako will outline the final details of their plan and then direct the player to Dalton, who can give more information about the mole's true identity. The mission will then end and the player will be rewarded with 250 XP, 4,800 credits, two Med Packs, two Heal Paste, and two Digipicks.

How to Complete "Sabotage"

Starfield containment chamber

In "Sabotage," it's finally time to find out who the real mole is. After speaking with Dalton, he reveals that Ularu is indeed the mole. However, without enough incriminating evidence, they can't make any moves just yet. Instead, they plan to continue pretending that Imogene is the mole until they have more evidence against Ularu. Dalton then says their plan is to catch Ularu in the act of attempting to sabotage Masako, and then he and the player attend a meeting together to discuss the mole.

After a long meeting, the player will be instructed to head over to Research and Development to receive the Internal Neuroamp from Veena. This will simultaneously unlock the Manipulate skill, which can be used to control the minds of NPCs during conversation and even force them to move. After the surgery, the player will get an opportunity to practice using Manipulate during a brief tutorial, and then they'll be directed back to Masako.

RELATED: The Most Useful Skyrim Console Commands Every Player Should Know

As Masako is briefing the on the mission ahead, she will give them two options for entry into Infinity LTD: Option A and Option B. The best choice is Option B, as it will make that part of the quest just a bit easier. The player will be tasked with running the Overseer Program on Lucas Drexler's computer in his office on the Executive floor and on Faye Sengsavahn's computer in her office in Research & Development, and they will need to obtain the company's Internal Neuroamp Prototype from R&D, all without a body count.

Before heading into Infinity LTD, note that this mission is one of the most challenging missions in Starfield, partially because Starfield's stealth mechanics are buggy and partially because the mission itself is buggy. It is impossible to provide precise directions for the entire mission, as the player will simply need to improvise the majority of the time. However, there are several key things you can do to ensure the mission goes as smoothly as possible. Finally, it is best to create a new save file every few minutes, or at least after every major obstacle.

After entering Infinity LTD and checking in with Aelys Ortize at the front desk, it's best to begin by following Aelys to Nina Hart's office and then speaking with her. She can then be manipulated to provide clearance to the Executive floor, where Lucas Drexler's office is. After obtaining clearance, take the elevator to the Executive Offices floor, speak with Lucas, and then manipulate him to gain free access to his computer and run the Overseer Program.

RELATED: What Happened to the Dwemer in Elder Scrolls Lore?

Next, take the elevator to Roof Access, enter the vent on the right upon exiting, then manipulate the guard ahead to hit the switch near him and turn off the fan. Jump down to the level below and head to the objective marker to sabotage the heating system using the computer there. This will release gas into the entire building, bringing about the evacuation of everyone but the security guards.

Starfield vent to research and development wing in Infinity LTD

This next section is the most challenging and will require the player to be original and creative. You will need to find a way into Research & Development without killing anyone. Getting caught is okay, so long as you can retreat until the guards stop searching. Don't neglect using Manipulate to take control of guards. Although the methods for reaching it will vary, there is a vent in the rafters of the bottom floor beneath the Lobby that will lead to R&D.

Upon entering R&D, follow the objective marker to Faye's office. This can ultimately be done by hugging the left wall on the pipes, entering a vent, dropping through a hatch, and then moving across toward the stairs that lead to her office. To the left of her computer, the player will find a Digipick, a Credstik, and an R&D ID Card that they will need later. They can then access Faye's computer and run the Overseer Program.

RELATED: How (& Why) To Install The Skyrim Script Extender

The final objective involves retrieving the Internal Neuroamp Prototype. The best way to reach this area is by moving back to where you entered R&D, then hugging the wall on the right instead of the left as before, all the way back to a large Secure Access door that can only be opened using the R&D ID Card they picked up from Faye's desk.

In that room, the first thing the player needs to do is disable the alarm on the Neuroamp's casing, which can be accomplished by hacking the Expert lock on the Security Access Controls to the left of where the Neuroamp is being held. Close the shutters using the switch on the right and then retrieve the Neuroamp from its container.

RELATED: Skyrim: How to Join the Dark Brotherhood (Full Guide)

Now, it's all just a matter of exiting the building without killing anyone. Every objective marker can be followed after that, speaking with the indicated NPCs along the way, and the player will eventually finally complete the mission and receive 350 XP, 10,000 credits, two Med Packs, and a Hippolyta.

How to Complete "Executive Level"

Starfield Ryujin executives having a meeting

"Executive Level" is the final mission in the Ryujin Industries storyline, and thankfully, the easiest, as it involves simply speaking with Ryujin's various Executives and convincing them to vote in favor of acquiring Infinity LTD. You will also want to convince them to vote to keep the Internal Neuroamp in order to keep using the Manipulate skill. Once the mission is complete, you will receive 350 XP, 13,400 credits, and a Reconstim. Additionally, the player can visit Imogene on the Operations floor to learn they've been given their own office and can access the Mission Board inside to acquire and complete an endless number of missions for Ryujin.
