Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III announced the return of the franchise's iconic Zombies mode with a ghoulish cinematic trailer.

The four-minute-long trailer primarily follows the perspective of ultranationalist arms dealer Viktor Zahaev, who previously acted as the nemesis of Task Force 141 in the Modern Warfare storyline of Call of Duty: Warzone. The promotional video additionally features appearances from several fan-favorite characters, namely Modern Warfare's Sergeant Johnny "Soap" MacTavish and SSO Kate Laswell. They will also be joined by Captain Sergei Ravenov, an old veteran from Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies mode.

The story for Modern Warfare III Zombies is set weeks after the events of the trailer. Soap, Ravenov and an unseen Operator are deployed to the area on a mission to contain the outbreak, codenamed "Operation Deadbolt." Modern Warfare III's Zombies will additionally feature both hostile undead and soldiers from Terminus Outcomes, a private military company hired by Zakhaev and led by the mercenary, Jack Fletcher. This iteration will also see the return of Aetherium, a dangerous element introduced in the Dark Aether Zombie narratives from Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Vanguard.

Modern Warfare III Zombies Release Date

A synopsis of the storyline reads, "An emergency contingency plan put into action by the CIA, Operation Deadbolt was created in the aftermath of the outbreak events witnessed by Requiem operatives during the events of the Cold War. SSO Laswell is given to job of prepping the plan, placing SSO Selma Green on the ground as the de facto commander of the operation. When the team arrives at the Exclusion Zone alongside Soap and Ravenov, a few weeks have elapsed since the events shown in the first part of the trailer. As a member of the team, your Operation joins other multi-national Operators to counter the threat posed by the Exclusion Zone, all running under the basic tenants of Operation Deadbolt: 'Nothing gets in, nothing gets out.'"

The latest entry into the Zombies storyline will launch on the same day as Modern Warfare III. Developed by Sledgehammer Games, the title is a direct sequel to 2022's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and follows Task Force 141 on their manhunt for the ultranationalist terrorist, Vladimir Makarov.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III releases Nov. 10 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
