While one Spider-Man swings around the city in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, it doesn't mean the other one takes the day off, as Insomniac has confirmed that Peter Parker and Miles Morales can interact with one another in the game.

James Ham, the animation director for Spider-Man 2 spoke to Gamertag Radio and revealed a unique feature of the game in which players can encounter the Spider-Man opposite the one they are controlling. When a player controls one of the two main characters in the game the other becomes a dynamic NPC that they can encounter fighting crime or doing other things across the game's world map.

As players swing around the newly expanded New York City and Brooklyn, they might find themselves suddenly teaming up with the Spider-Man they aren't currently controlling. Insomniac has not revealed how this affects combat encounters, however, they did reveal a team attack mechanic in which Peter and Miles use their own unique abilities in tandem with each other for powerful special moves.

After the events of the first game and the sequel/spinoff Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Insomniac's Marvel Universe has two individual people swinging around the city as Spider-Man, leading many fans to wonder how this dynamic would play out in the game's full sequel. Rumors came up about the potential for two-player co-op gameplay during missions or possibly allowing players to switch between the two on the fly both in and out of combat.

Following Sony's initial gameplay trailer for Spider-Man 2, however, the developers finally provided an answer, showing off transitions between story missions that star either Peter or Miles and letting players switch between the two in action. The mechanic saw comparisons to Grand Theft Auto V's character-switching dynamic, which saw each character take on unique story missions that progress both their own personal storylines and the game's main plot.

Spider-Man 2 also introduces the all-black symbiote suit, which grants Peter a new set of abilities, which will add another layer to combat. Given the symbiote's role in the story, in which it overtakes Peter and leads him to compromise his own morals, some speculation has arisen about the potential for a boss fight against the original Spider-Man as Miles Morales, though the developers have yet to reveal such a plot point in the game's promotional material.

Fans can find all the answers when Spider-Man 2 hits the PlayStation 5 on Oct. 20.
