According to series co-creator Ed Boon, the Nintendo Switch version of Mortal Kombat 1 will be "fixed."

The newest entry in the long-running fighting game franchise has been getting praise from critics and fans across the board, save for the Nintendo Switch version. Many have complained online about the incredibly downgraded graphics compared to other versions, not to mention the bugs, loading screens, and other woes the entry has. On Metacritic, the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC versions of the title average a score of 87. The Switch version has yet to be ranked, and reviews that have come out cite it as the worst of the bunch by a large margin.

These complaints reached the ears of Ed Boon, who noted in an interview with BBC that the issues will be addressed and the Switch version will improve. "A number of the concerns of the issues that had come up will absolutely be addressed. It would have been ideal for us to have released the version that we absolutely wanted. But anything that we're finding a problem with is on our list and is going to be fixed. [...] Anything that we see that is not acceptable will absolutely be addressed."

Another thing he brought up was that despite the Switch versions' issues, NetherRealm Studios won't abandon the game and will continue to support it throughout the game's lifetime. That means that any updates or future Kombat Packs with DLC characters outside the one that is currently on the way will come to the Switch just as it will for the other versions. Whether those future DLC packs will be of better quality remains to be seen. An irony that many gamers will point out is that this isn't the first time that NetherRealm Studios has done a "substandard port" of a title to a Nintendo system.

When they released Mortal Kombat 11 on Switch, it suffered many of the same issues, including the graphical downgrade that plagues the newest version. The Nintendo Switch has proven with many titles that it can have impressive graphics and can run top-tier games smoothly, so many wonder why NetherRealm isn't putting in that same effort with the system or simply dropping the Switch from the list of platforms they put their titles on. Either way, they have promised to fix things and are known for keeping their word on such matters.

Mortal Kombat 1 is available now on console and PC.
