Invincible creator Robert Kirkman has revealed that he is planning on the animated series to run for at least eight seasons on Prime Video.

Speaking with Polygon, Kirkman shared how many seasons the animated series would need to completely adapt the entire comic, which consists of 144 issues published between 2003 and 2018 "I'm trying not to pin it down to a number, because it is somewhat of a moving target. I think in the seven-to-eight-season range seems like it would be enough," he said. "But there could be some things we move through a little faster, some things we expand. If we’re fortunate enough to go for a good long time, I think that would be enough to cover the entire comic. And there are some things along the way that didn’t get into the comic that I’d like to do. I think it’d be cool to have some episodes here and there that are completely original. So that’s part of the plan moving forward."

Invincible is based on Kirkman's Image Comics series of the same name that he created with Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley. The first season of the critically acclaimed adult animated series debuted in March 2021, following 17-year-old Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun), the half-human son of the world's greatest superhero Omni-Man (J. K. Simmons), learning how to become a superhero after developing similar powers to his father. After a team of elite superheroes is mysteriously murdered, Mark finds himself in the center of a dangerous conspiracy that threatens to destroy him, his family, and the entire world.

Invincible Season 2 Is Bigger Than Season 1

In a separate interview ahead of the Season 2 premiere, Kirkman revealed that "season 2 is going to feel much bigger than season 1." He explained, "The overarching story of Invincible that'll continue from season to season is about the growth and change that Mark goes through as he moves from a teenager into adulthood... and possibly even into old age. So in season 2, we'll see him maturing and growing up a little bit." Angstrom Levy, a villain who is able to open portals to alternate dimensions, has been confirmed to be the main antagonist of the forthcoming season.
